Investment auditing law is a dynamic and constantly evolving area of law that is of great importance not only for practice but also for academic research.

Young academics in particular make an important contribution here by shedding light on new issues, analysing current developments and developing innovative solutions. We have made it our mission to actively promote young academics in this field.

We support young academics with scholarships and printing cost subsidies, which help to make pioneering dissertations and other academic work accessible to a wider public and recognise particularly outstanding work.

Doctoral scholarships

The Forum Investitionsprüfung e.V. awards an annual doctoral prize worth € 5,000. Eligible applicants are individuals who have obtained a doctorate from a German-speaking university or German and, where applicable, Austrian nationals who have obtained a doctorate from an international university.

The doctoral thesis must focus on German and/or European investment control law. Theses that deal with related areas of law, such as fundamental freedoms or merger control, are also eligible, as are comparative law theses on investment review regimes in other countries, such as CFIUS, provided that the focus is on investment review.

In addition, the doctoral degree must have been awarded with magna cum laude or a national equivalent and must have been accepted for doctoral studies or published for the first time since 1 January 2024. Repeated applications are not permitted.

Further information:

  • The thesis can be recommended by one of the two reviewers or submitted as a self-nomination to the board of Forum Investitionsprüfung e.V., accompanied by both doctoral reviews and a short teaser summarising the main arguments.
  • The scientific evaluation of the proposals will be carried out by Professor Bungenberg from Saarland University and Professor Herrmann from the University of Passau.

  • The association will finance a small award ceremony, which will take place during the annual conference with a short laudatory speech, if possible.
